Gurugram's power upgrade: multiple high-power substations on the horizon

The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) has unveiled plans to introduce five high-capacity power substations in Gurugram. This initiative aims to bolster the city's power supply infrastructure, benefitting Old Gurugram, sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, and the industrial areas. The total investment for these projects amounts to approximately ₹141 crore. Two substations are already under construction, while three others are in the planning stages. The completion of these projects is expected to alleviate power load issues in various areas.

The HVPNL has revealed its strategy to strengthen Gurugram's power infrastructure by introducing five high-capacity power substations. These substations are set to make a significant impact, with a total investment of around ₹141 crore. The areas slated to benefit from these enhancements include Old Gurugram, sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, Sector 37, and Udyog Vihar, among others.

Projects in progress and upcoming developments

Among the five projects, two substations are already in the construction phase. These include a 220KV facility in Sector 15 Part 2 and a 66KV facility in Udyog Vihar Phase 1. Meanwhile, three additional projects are in the pipeline. 

Deepak Bhardwaj, HVPNL superintending engineer for Gurugram and Manesar, provided insights into the ongoing developments. He stated, "Tendering process for two 66kV substations in Sector 37D and Sector 10 respectively, and a 220kV substation in Sector 99 are going on."

Impact on Gurugram's power supply

The 220KV substation in Sector 15 Part 2, estimated to cost ₹25 crore, is expected to be completed soon. This substation is poised to become a crucial component of Gurugram's power infrastructure, particularly benefiting the Old Gurugram area. Previously, this region relied on electricity supplied by 220kV substations in Daulatabad and Badshahpur.

Additionally, the 66kV substation in Udyog Vihar Phase 1 will alleviate the power load on another 66kV substation in Udyog Vihar Phase 4. Currently, the latter handles power supply for all industries and offices in the vicinity. This upcoming substation, estimated to cost ₹16 crore, is anticipated to be commissioned shortly.

Future developments

Apart from the ongoing projects, work is expected to commence soon on two 66kV substations planned for Sector 37D and Sector 10. The Sector 37D substation, with an estimated cost of ₹16 crore, will provide power to the Basai industrial area. This area currently relies on a 66kV substation in Sector 10, which also supplies power to residential zones.

Furthermore, another substation is set to emerge at the Sector 10 site, featuring a 66kV gas-insulated facility that will cost ₹22 crore. Lastly, a 220kV substation in Sector 99 is being developed to cater to residential and commercial areas along the Dwarka Expressway. The tendering process is currently underway for this project, which is expected to cost approximately ₹62 crore.

These substantial infrastructure upgrades aim to enhance power supply reliability and capacity across Gurugram, supporting its growing needs and development.
